Information & Frequently Asked Questions

  • Yes. For our self-catering suites we usually offer a minimum 3-night stay. Online you can book 3 nights over a weekend or 4 midweek, but we can do a 3 night midweek stay on request. Changing over such large spaces isn’t really cost effective for shorter stays than that, though of course it means you can stay for two nights with a very early check in or late check out.

    Our guest rooms and VIP suite can be booked for a single night, when they are taken as part of an event booking, or to add an extra bedroom to an existing self-catering booking.

    If you do have a specific short stay in mind, however, it’s always worth getting in touch.

  • Our self-catering units are available for weekly booking, and are slightly cheaper than the equivalent nightly rate when booked this way.

    We do offer check in on different days of the week, and if you can be flexible about your travel day we recommend avoiding Friday and Saturday as the traffic on the motorways can be heavy.

    Our online booking system will show specific recommended check in days, which may vary a little from suite to suite - that’s to help us manage our housekeeping workload. If you need a different check in day than those shown, please just get in touch as we can usually move things around.

  • To book for longer than a week, please contact us. The pricing will generally be slightly discounted for longer periods, though there are maximum terms of 28 days before a letting is no longer considered as a holiday stay.

    We offer special pricing for our premium week, which gives accommodation over two full consecutive weekends (Friday of weekend 1 to the end of Sunday or even Monday morning of weekend 2), allowing you to enjoy the maximum time away for one week off work.

  • Our online booking system will guide you towards Thursday, Friday and Monday changeovers, which are our most common options. You can book a weekend, midweek or full week stay online.

    However, we can be flexible, so if you need a different start date or specific number of nights that isn’t offered online, please do get in touch.

    If you aren’t tied to a weekend start, it’s worth considering a weekday arrival, as it can be much quieter on the roads!

  • No, we don’t usually mix holiday bookings with events. When we book a wedding we offer the venue for exclusive use. So if you book a holiday with us, you may find other holiday guests, but you won’t be disturbed by a big event.

    The only exception is that sometimes we will have a small elopement during the day, or an occasional lunch or meeting.

    If there is anything else planned, we’ll let you know.

  • Yes, all of our ground floor accommodation is pet friendly. We currently don’t allow dogs upstairs - our Kingsley Suite and Cook’s Suite, both offer two bedrooms, and either are suitable for two couples or a familly with children Our Bakehouse studio is ideal for one or two guests. Both are on the ground floor, with direct access to the car parking area and garden.

    Two or three of these units can be booked together to make a bigger three, four or five bedroom space as they are linked by private lobbies and dedicated entrance doors. They would benefit from a large private courtyard and parking right outside.

  • Absolutely, yes! We have children ourselves, and we have a large indoor playroom, with soft play, trampoline, ping-pong, air hockey, table football and lots more.

    Our two bedroom apartments are all suitable for children, and we have cots, toddler beds, bathroom steps, and bed guards if required. We provide a few games in each apartment, and a box of beach kit to help reduce the purchase of throw away toys.

    The gardens are perfect for exploring with little ones…and for teenagers you can reassure them we do have good WiFi

  • For accommodation bookings, check in is from 4pm to 7pm and check out is by 10am. Please contact us if you require a later check out or plan to arrive outside these hours.

    For events, your timings will be fixed along with the other details of your booking.

  • There are loads of options for those seeking a bit of outdoor activity or adventure. We are right near the coast, less than 2 miles to Westward Ho! beach or Abbotsham cliffs which are great for families and surfing, as well as the estuary and river Torridge, and we offer a range of boards, games, a kayak and kids’ wetsuits for guests to borrow. We also have lots of bikes, for exploring the nearby Tarka trail, or its an easy walk to join the Southwest Coast Path, which covers more than 600 miles of coastline.

    We are happy to recommend classes and centres for surfing, cruising, paddleboarding, watersports or outdoor pursuits, just ask!

  • Yes, you can! The best thing to do would be to submit an enquiry here, then we will be in touch to discuss the details and availability further with you.

  • You can definitely book a group holiday. We can take up to about 24 for a simple self-catering stay or up to about 30 guests by special arrangement or for an event or wedding.

    However you wouldn’t automatically have access to the whole house.

    The house is best suited for groups of multi-family units, as our group accommodation is made up of a number of suites and apartments that open up to suit part communal use. There is one extra large open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area suitable for larger groups to dine and gather, but also individual kitchens for different subgroups to enjoy an element of independence.

    We find it works well for large family gatherings with each household having their own space but still lots of opportunity for communal gathering.

    It’s also perfect for two or more families who want to holiday together but not share every meal or routine.

    The self-catering guest rooms are situated in a wing on the northwest side of the house, with a dedicated entrance. They are set around an open coutyard.

    Access to the formal function rooms on the south and east side of the house isn’t included in simple group self catering accommodation bookings. But it can be arranged as part of a catered or staffed event. Please feel free to ask for options for a formal reception, meal or party.

  • For accommodation, we allow cancellation up to 2 months before your stay, reserving the right to charge a small £20 admin fee.

    In the final 2 months, we reserve the right to retain all or some of the deposit, though we will do our best to be flexible, especially if we can rebook the accommodation.

    In the case of no-shows, we would reserve the right to keep some or all of the payment.

    For weddings and events, there will be a different cancellation policy depending on the size and scale of the booking. Wedding deposits are refundable up to 1 year before the event, and we reserve the right to cover any costs incurred for planning meetings etc after that.

  • Yes, we have several ground floor options with level access, wide doorways, walk-in showers, and parking right outside. Our Housekeeper’s suite is best for wheelchair users - the kitchen isn’t adapted, but the showers are wetroom style and we have movable grab rails and a shower chair. Feel free to contact us to discuss your needs.

    For wedding and event guests, we have level access, lots of ground floor room options, and an accessible WC in the event space.

  • Yes, our apartments are fully equipped, with beds made and towels provided (even beach towels/dog towels for holiday guests). They are set up with enough kitchen equipment, crockery, cutlery and glassware for you to cook a full family meal with a couple of extra guests, make a sunday roast, bake a cake, enjoy a BBQ or al fresco dinner, or even set off on a picnic. There will be a handful of dishwasher tablets, a couple of laundry detergent pods, laundry detergent, a couple of loo rolls per bathroom and enough supplies to grab a drink and snack when you arrive.
