BRING EVERYONE
Groups & Larger Families
The More The Merrier
We can accommodate self-catering groups of up to 24 guests in our nine-bedroom ‘Victorian wing’ of Moreton House. This spacious and luxurious group accommodation is spread over the ground and first floor, with the majority of rooms set around an open courtyard dining and seating area.
The space offers a lot of flexibility and we are happy to host smaller groups too - if you don’t need all 9 bedrooms, you can just book the number you require. For groups taking at least 5 bedrooms (the entire ground floor space) we can usually guarantee exclusive use.
We have combinations that work for extended and multigenerational families, several families travelling together, friend groups, hens and stags, retreats or more formal corporate off-sites or residential teambuilding.
Enjoy a large open plan kitchen-dining-lounge room where the whole group can cook and eat together. As well as the courtyard for outdoor dining, there’s also a south-facing BBQ deck with pergola, and our secret garden BBQ area with fire circle and gazebo.
Our nine bedrooms all offer their own ensuite bathroom or shower room. They mostly offer a king size bed but the majority have the flexibility of either an extra single bed, a daybed, or the option to convert to twin beds.
For staffed events such as retreats, weddings, conferences and corporate events, we can offer up to 5 further bedrooms and additional function or meeting rooms.
Coast and country
Moreton House is set in 5 acres of private grounds, surrounded by mature trees, on the outskirts of the historic port town of Bideford. Enjoy easy access to shops, pubs and cafes, as well being just moments from the main A39 Atlantic Highway, making us ideally placed to explore the whole of North Devon and its coast, as well as being easy to reach North Cornwall, Dartmoor and Exmoor in little over half and hour.
We lie within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, as well as being part of The North Devon UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, a World Surfing Reserve, and minutes away from a unique wetland Country park, the Northam Burrows. We are lucky to be within a short walk of the Southwest Coast Path (the section voted Britain’s favourite path 2025), a short cycle from the riverside Tarka Trail, and near several perfect launch spots for paddleboarding at the coast, on the estuary or river. Nearby Westward Ho! beach, lifeguarded and perfect for swimming and surfing, offers two miles of sand, rockpools and great fish and chips!
We have plenty of free private parking around the house, as well as fast EV charging available to guests.
Historic features
The main part of Moreton House is Georgian, but like many properties of this scale, it has older and newer parts. The group accommodation is located mostly in a one- and two-storey addition of Victorian vintage, built to house a ‘new’ kitchen and service wing for the household staff around the mid-nineteenth century. The old servants’ hall, kitchens, scullery, pantries, wash-house and bakery now house our newly renovated luxurious self-catering suites, which celebrate the period features while offering all modern comforts including WiFi, central heating, smart TVs, dishwashers, underfloor heating and powerful showers.
Sleep well!
There is no need to compromise on space or quality to accommodate a larger group here. All of our self-catering bedrooms have either their own ensuite bath or shower room. And each has its own unique character and features, including four-posters. lounge spaces, additional daybeds and fireplaces. There is room for an extra child’s bed, cot or toddler bed in most of the rooms. We offer hotel-quality mattresses and bedding.
The group space is perfect for multigenerational families, with our ground floor rooms all having level access, walk-in showering options, easy routes to the parking right outside and even our Kingsley master bedroom suite is suitable for wheelchair access.
Our ground floor rooms and our communal kitchen-dining-lounge spaces are all pet friendly.
And our accommodation is great for children, with an indoor play room suitable for the youngest and oldest with softplay, trampoline, playhouse, but also table football, airhockey and ping pong. The grounds have lots of play areas and open lawn areas, plus garden games such as giant chess, croquet lawn, slackline and hammocks. There’s a slide and hobbit house, carved animals and even fairies in the trees…
Creature comforts
Each of our luxurious bedrooms has a bathroom or shower room to match. Choose from a roll-top bath, a period washstand or expansive walk in shower. We have a shower chair and discreet grab rails so that accessibility doesn’t have to come with any loss of style.
The hub of our group accommodation is the former servants’ hall - now a vast open plan kitchen-dining-lounge space. We set it up for each group with a suitable sized table and enough crockery for all. For smaller groups we won’t leave you shouting to opposite ends of a giant table, nor falling over 15 spare chairs, but for the largest groups, we’ll add enough benches, pews and chairs for all.
There is a large range cooker, American style fridge freezer and large breakfast bar, which gives space for lots of helpers in the kitchen.
For al fresco dining, the courtyard dining and BBQ deck offer two outdoor tables for 10-12 each, accessible via French doors, and there are picnic benches around the garden for yet more seating.

Those little extras
If staying in a stately home isn’t enough, take a look at the little extras that come with our group accommodation. There is a cellar full of bikes and boards to play with, boxes of beach toys so that you can avoid buying those single use throwaway buckets and spades, a full indoor children’s playroom and a snug library if your idea of a holiday is curling up with a good book. The cosy woodburners make it just as appealing on a chilly winter’s evening as during the heat of summer, and over the festive season you’ll find the place fully decorated with real trees and festive foliage.
